Who is chloe?
Chloe Shade is a multidisciplinary theatre artist and arts administrator whose work is rooted in community, cultural expression, and social change. At the core of her practice is a commitment to creating art that reflects, uplifts, and transforms BIPOC communities. Chloe believes theatre has the power not only to represent people but to expand how they see themselves, their histories, and their possibilities. She strives to build spaces where art does more than mirror lived experience. Her work aims to challenge assumptions, deepen awareness, and provoke new ways of thinking within communities of color.
Whether directing, performing, or developing arts programming, Chloe approaches every project through a socially conscious lens. She is dedicated to creating work that asks questions, sparks dialogue, and invites audiences to engage with stories that complicate and enrich their understanding of the world around them. Her artistic practice centers on empowering artists, cultivating collaboration, and using theatre as a tool for healing, joy, and community growth.
Chloe’s background includes a blend of artistic and administrative experience across regional and academic settings. She has directed, assistant directed, and performed on stages across Charlotte and beyond, and has contributed to organizations such as Theatre Charlotte, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, The Black Theatre Repertory, and the Queen City New Play Initiative. She holds a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Arts Administration, along with a foundation in performance and directing that anchors her creative identity.
Chloe is committed to building a future in the arts where BIPOC voices are not only present, but central. Her work continues to evolve as she collaborates with communities, artists, and organizations to create meaningful, innovative theatre that inspires both reflection and transformation.
